Dundee, Mich. (July, 8, 2009) - Geocycle LLC takes the lead with counties to clean up and beneficially reuse illegally dumped tires throughout Colorado.

In the past five years, counties in Colorado have depended on Geocycle, a local waste solutions company, to clean-up illegal dump sites. Geocycle has completed 12 clean-ups in counties throughout the state, resulting in the removal of over 15,500 tires in the past 12 months.

For Colorado residents this means communities do not have unmanaged piles of tires that create both a health and safety hazard. Instead these tires are beneficially reused in a local cement kiln through co-processing, the act of recovering energy and mineral content from waste, thus leaving nothing for future generations to clean up. Co-processing allows Holcim to replace coal and iron with an alternative, conserving our state’s natural resources. For Geocycle, and parent company Holcim, this makes both environmental and business sense.

Geocycle has been gathering whole tires in the Colorado market since early 2004, providing a sustainable solution for the state through the use of co-processing. In 2008 Geocycle acquired The Tire Broker located in Colorado Springs, thereby simplifying the tire collection process. Colorado houses large monofills containing over 60 million waste tires as well as millions of tires in smaller piles either on farms, residential or commercial sites. This means the state of Colorado is home to one third of waste whole tires in the US. With such resounding quantities of whole waste tires littering the state, government and businesses alike are proactively working to solve the waste tire problem.
